More About Mark Spain

I have always been interested in art right from an early age. After having attended Art College, I decided I favored print-making and opened up a print-making studio in Kent, where I spent many years developing my etching and collagraph techniques.

After the storm of October 1997 I was commissioned to produce a limited edition etching of Kew Gardens. Other commissions have included ones for Natwest Bank and The Dorchester Hotel.

My art began with a love of landscape images and I had many etching editions published by CCA Galleries of London. These were successful and spanned many years. However, as time went on I felt the need to develop other forms of imagery from abstract to figurative. I am constantly experimenting with different subjects and techniques, which I then apply to a variety of images. Although this is new to me I have thoroughly enjoyed and embraced the new challenge.

My collagraphs have been exhibited at Mall Galleries, and my abstract oils at the 20th Century British Art Fair as well as other works being shown at the Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Show and the Barbican Contemporary Print Fair. More recently, my figurative works have been published by Washington Green.

More About Mort Solberg

“To paint what you see is one thing but to feel what you see and to be able to paint that impression is something else again,” says artist Mort Solberg, who has created a distinctive, timeless style by contrasting loose and flowing forms with sharp edges and tight definition. His interest in art began early and he pursued it through the years at the West Technical High School and the Cleveland Institute of Art. Following graduation, Solberg entered the world of commercial art, first working at an art studio, then for American Greetings. He was content to work successfully in that field until a job as art director for another card copy brought him west. There he was inspired to explore photography, eventually returning to painting with a new point of view and a vital new approach. The result has been art that has been lauded across the continent. His paintings are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art and the American Bicentennial Gallery, among others. His honors include a purchase award from the National Watercolor Society’s top award, and an award of merit from the Society of Animal Artists. Solberg is a member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. The result is also art that has been lauded across the continent. His paintings are in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art and the American Bicentennial Gallery, among others.

More About R.S. Riddick

Born and raised in sunny Santa Monica, California, Ron was the son of an art director at Prudential Insurance—so he had access to the tools of commercial art. While in high school, he took the extra challenge of night classes at the Los Angeles Art Center and College of Design, where he found that he was quick to pick up both classic and new techniques in continuing to improve his skills. He then left school to work in a printmaking atelier, but it wasn’t until he began to study with Russian artist Sergei Bongart that he was truly inspired. He says of Bongart “I sensed something in Bongart I lacked: the gift of painting from the heart and spirit. But Sergei did more than instruct me in painting. He shared his love of music, literature, poetry, nature, life and showed me the historic connections.” Bongart was not the only artistic influence in Ron’s life—his work is often compared favorably to John Singer Sargent. He has the same ability to capture on canvas and paper the personality and life of those he paints. Riddick now makes Tuscon, Arizona his home. His recent accomplishments include traveling to Europe twice where he invested countless hours of study in Europe’s finest museums, galleries and collections—and where he painted on location in cities and in the countrysides of Portugal, Spain, Italy and France. He shows his work at select galleries and shows throughout the country and, along with many other awards and accolades, is an Artist of America Master Painter and a member of the Cowboy Artists of America.

More About Greg Olsen

“From an early age I have always been fascinated by paintings that create mood, emotion and atmosphere; especially those paintings that lift me and transport me to some far off place. These are the elements I strive to create in my paintings. My paintings in many ways record what is most important to me: my feelings and experiences with family and friends along with the spiritual aspects of my life. My hope is that in these images you will find something familiar, something which will resonate and remind you of what is important in your own life.” – Greg Olsen

Greg Olsen was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho and grew up in the nearby farming community of Iona. He is the oldest of five children. Greg was blessed with very supportive parents who always encouraged him and provided opportunities for him to pursue his passion of art. Greg remembers a time as a teenager when he had been hired to paint a large sign for a local grocery store. It was wintertime and too cold to paint in the garage so his parents let him set up a workshop in his bedroom. He promptly spilled two quarts of black and orange enamel paint all over his bedroom carpet. Amazingly, his parents still encouraged him in his artistic endeavors. Greg’s mother said, “Greg began showing an interest in art when he was in about the 4th or 5th grade. He asked for a John Nagey art set for Christmas, which came with detailed instructions about values, shading, perspective, etc. It also came with a plentiful supply of paper and different shades of black, grey and white chalk, along with colored pencils. Greg seemed to enjoy practicing with these and received encouragement from his school teacher as well as at home.

By the time Greg reached Jr. high School he began to take it quite seriously, and when he entered Bonneville High School he was fortunate to have an extremely good art teacher, who perhaps, contributed more to Greg’s art education and desire to make it his life\’s work than any other person.” After high school Greg attended Utah State University where he studied art. While attending school he met his wife, Sydnie Cazier. They have six children and are enjoying their new role as grandparents. Greg likes being close to his family. He paints in his studio, 37 steps from the back door of their home.

More About James Meger

James A. Meger taught art from 1973-1979. During this time he consulted with his mentor, artist Les Kouba. In 1979, he resigned from teaching. His first limited edition print “Wildside” was released and quickly sold out. It was also announced in December of 1979 that he had won the 1980 Minnesota Duck Stamp print.

Today, Meger feels that his previous education, which included three years of pre-med, as well as hunting experience, has educated him for the muscular and skeletal structure needed to paint his realistic depictions of wildlife. Meger wants to tell a story with each of his paintings. Some of his paintings have taken up to five months to create. Since 1982, he has included hidden elements in his paintings. The curious and keen observers seek out the hidden images. From this, Meger has been known as the artist who paints “More than Meets the Eye.”

More About Scott Jacobs

Scott Jacobs’ work is remarkable for its photo realistic excellence. The latest work is not just realistic, people have described it as surreal. Perhaps even more surreal, is the fact that Jacobs has been painting for only six years. His work is now owned by celebrities such as Peter Fonda, Willie G. Davidson, Lorenzo Lamas, and Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, John Elway of the Denver Broncos, and Karl Malone of the Utah Jazz.

Scott’s professional training includes Parson’s School of Design in New York, Ducret School of Art in New Jersey, and numerous illustration “getaways”, all of which were taught by some of the most well established illustrators in the nation today. Jacobs’ style and success has rejuvenated the super-realistic genre of art.

Depending on the size, each of Scott’s paintings usually takes more than one hundred hours to complete. Much of the work is done with a brush that is so small, it is like using a pencil point. He has found this to be the only way to render the necessary detail which allows the work to earn the title “Photo-Realistic”. He uses both acrylic and oil mediums on canvas, masonite and other surfaces. Jacobs also uses many photographs of a subject, taken from all angles to achieve the depth in his paintings.

In addition to paintings of motorcycles, Scott has captured the uncanny likeness of celebrities in commissioned portraits such as business tycoon Malcolm Forbes, supermodels Kim Alexis and Kathy Ireland, and Good Morning America host, Joan Lunden.

At the invitation of the Malcolm Forbes estate, Scott was granted access to his motorcycle collection for photo-research. Mr. Forbes commented that he was very impressed with Scott’s attention to detail, referring to the painting of his own bike ‘Ruby’.

Licensed by Harley Davidson, Scott’s motorcycle work has been featured in VQ magazine, American Iron, Art Business News, Easy Rider Magazine, Forbes newspapers and a host of other national publications, making Jacobs one of the very few of today’s most sought after artists. His work sells throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.

His work has been shown at the annual Art Expos in New York and LA, La Galleria in Newport Beach, CA; The Richardson Gallery in Reno, NV; the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally, one of the world’s largest motorcycle rallies at Sturgis, South Dakota; The Laughlin River Run in Nevada, The Love Ride in Glendale, CA, Daytona Bike Week, and the Harley-Davidson dealer conventions. Scott has recently had shows at Tower Gallery in Sacramento, CA; Pegasus Gallery in Des Moines, IA; and Perse Gallery in St. Louis, MO.

More About Terry Isaac

Artist Terry Isaac is a native Northwesterner, living in the Willamette Valley of Oregon between the Cascade Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean. Isaac paints the wildlife and landscapes of North America. Although he received a formal art education, graduating with honors, Isaac believes that his best training has come from being outdoors and from studying the work of his favorite wildlife artists.

Isaac particularly admires the art of 19th century painters Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt, who painted the dramatic light and landscapes of the West. Isaac, painting predominantly in acrylics, strives to capture not only the characteristics of his wildlife subjects but also the light that surrounds them. He takes a great deal of care to depict both his subjects and their habitats with accuracy.

Isaac has been selected to participate in several important art exhibitions, including the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum’s prestigious “Birds in Art” exhibitions. He was also commissioned to produce 14 waterfowl drawings for the Audubon Bird Handbook, published in 1987, and is author of Painting the Drama of Wildlife Step by Step, published by North Light Books.

A collector favorite, Isaac has been chosen as winner of the People’s Choice Award at galleries in North Carolina and Ohio. He was a Special Guest Artist at the Southeastern Wildlife Expo in 2000 and was named Artist of the Year in 1998 at both the Florida Wildlife Expo and Pacific Rim Wildlife Art Show. In 1999 he was named a Friend of the National Zoo as Artist of the Year. Hired as a visual consultant, Isaac helped to create the concept art for the main character in the Disney movie, Dinosaur.
