Artist Sonya Glaus grew up drawing and painting in her northwest Montana home. Her love of all things western is rooted in a childhood peppered with days spent on horseback in the Montana hills. Her subject matter often returns to western themes, but includes whatever subject she finds to be interesting or beautiful. Glaus pushes color and texture to capture a sense of dynamic motion in her western pieces, and focuses on the variations of light that make each image unique. “It is a constant challenge to get the paint to represent the amazing color that you see in real life,” Glaus says. “I do love color, and usually find that I like the vivid color on a subject that morning and evening light accentuates.” Glaus divides her creative time between outdoor plein air and indoor studio work.
