Among the Spirits of the Long-Ago People by Howard Terpning
The petroglyphs on the rocks are a sign that this is an old and sacred place, and the silence of the three visitors allows the viewer, along with these watchers, to hear the plaintive sound of the wind. It is a time for contemplation and meditation, in a high place where long ago ancestors climbed and left their mark. Now the descendants visit in reverential awe, leaving small pieces of trade cloth and hand-made objects as gifts for the gods.
Howard Terpning climbs to this sacred place alongside these wise men, capturing for the viewer a time that is no more.
