Chased by the Devil by Howard Terpning
Dust devils are a phenomenon familiar to those who dwell in dry places, where the combination of loose soil and turbulent air flow creates a volatile, rapidly moving cloud of dust. Like any weather occurrence, it can be explained in prosaically scientific terms, but to the Apache, the devil himself dwelled within this whirlwind, and if the demon managed to catch a man, that man would soon die.
In Chased by the Devil, Howard Terpning’s signature painting style is caught in the dust itself, a movement of brushstroke and color that provokes a wild chase.
