Circle of the Sacred Dogs is a limited edition print by Julie Kramer Cole depicting a winter scene in an Indian village surrounded by snowy mountains.
Prior to the 1600s, the nomadic Plains Indians relied on the camp dogs to carry their burdens. The first sight of the horse excited them into believing this great beast had been sent as a gift from the Great Spirit. They named this magnificent animal, “Sacred Dog”.
We invite you into this winter camp of the People as they enjoy the social, peaceful season of the long night moons. It is early morning and the dawn lifts to a shimmer over the great mountains. Cooking fires rise in the chill air. Into the soft whisper of the wind and the silence of the snow, baby horse voices whinney their welcome of friendship to approaching visitors, animal and human.
Look beyond the mist of reality and open your heart to the songs of the ancient ones. There you will find the mystery and wisdom of the guardian spirits who wrap the winter camp with their watchful protection and complete the Circle of the Sacred Dogs.
