Levi Levitates a Stone Fish by James Christensen
Christensen’s poofy, goofy men – generally overburdened by excessive clothing or random items that they carry about their person – bring a gentle smile to the day, as well as a sense of intrigue.
Just what is this person wearing? And how does he fit it all on one, albeit generously-sized, body? And what’s with the fish? In the world of James Christensen, it all makes sense.
“Sometimes I try to paint as if I were looking at a theatre state, so that if you moved the view to right or left, you’d find this tiny, unreal set. I was having alliterative fun with the title, but other people made some interesting symbolic connections with the Levites, members of one of the twelve tribes of Israel.”
