Offerings to Sun by Howard Terpning
Western artist Howard Terpning was honored when Native American friends took him to a holy place on the Blackfoot Reservation south of Browning, Montana. For many, many generations, Blackfeet of the area had visited the woods, attaching small offerings of rarities such as eagle feathers, ermine tails, and in later year, swatches of cloth, to the trunks of the trees.
Offerings to the Sun is Terpning’s interpretation of what this looked like in the past, and the present, and the future.
