Description
Second Geronimo Campaign by Howard Terpning
The battle between the U.S. government and the Chiricahua Apaches – led by history’s well-known Geronimo – went on, intermittently, for 25 years. Its eventual end, in the favor of the U.S. Army forces in 1886, would likely never have happened were it not for the splitting of loyalty among the tribe, resulting in a number of Western Apaches serving the U.S. government in seeking out Geronimo.
Howard Terpning’s Second Geronimo Campaign visually describes a moment in this campaign, as scouts, led by Chatto, a 40-year-old chief, read the landscape for signs.
