Sharpshooters Closing on the Herd by Howard Terpning
A gentle play on words, Sharpshooters Closing on the Herd focuses on two hunters, Sharps 50-caliber buffalo rifle in hand, settled downwind from a herd that they may have been following for days. One small sound is all it would take to alarm one buffalo into running, with the unfortunate result of the entire herd stampeding out of rifle’s reach.
Howard Terpning, with his command of color and composition, catches the sense of tension and silence, capturing in the braves’ taut posture the vital importance of getting off the right shot.
