Description
Sunset for the Comanche by Howard Terpning
The last quarter of the 19th century saw the end of a way of life that had existed for centuries beforehand. Said to be some of the best horsemen in the world, the Comanche people resisted catastrophic change, but ultimately, constant warfare and broken treaties took their toll.
Howard Terpning paints a remnant of the Quohadi (the Antelope Clan), the last of the Comanche people to surrender, as they defy attempts to subjugate them. The very title of this piece, is a sad prediction of their fate.
