Telling of the Legends (canvas) by Howard Terpning
Oral history, for many peoples with no written language, is a vital and accurate way of passing on wisdom from one generation to the next. High atop Chief Mountain in Montana, a holy man – his portrait based upon the visage of George Kicking Woman, a spiritual elder of the Blackfeet Nation who died in 2005 – teaches a future elder about their tribe’s origin, heroic deeds, religion, and the ways of their enemies.
“Telling of the Legends” is a remarkable 51″w x 31″h Anniversary Edition Museum Edition Canvas. The original work of this work was sold at the Coeur d’Alene Auction in 2013 for over $1.7 million.
