Thunder Speaks by Howard Terpning
Howard Terpning has always had a way of bringing his paintings to life – Thunder Speaks is no exception. Many of the rolling plains of Montana look much as they did when the Plains Indians rode across them, two centuries ago. On a contemporary research trip that Howard Terpning took with a group of Native People on those plains, the group was stopped by a sudden wind, and a rapid transformation of the sky to an ominous blue black. A clap of thunder completed the moment, and Terpning knew that this experience was the basis for a painting.
